Pawley’s Island
Located 25 miles south of Myrtle Beach, SC, Pawley’s Island is one of the oldest summer resorts on the East Coast. The families of rice planters who owned plantations on nearby rivers first settled Pawley’s Island in the early 1700s. Today there are 12 remaining residences in the historic district which date from the late 1700s to the mid 1800s.
Ocean lovers can stroll the low-key Litchfield Beach (much quieter than the Myrtle Beach area), while golfers have a wide choice of courses including Willbrook Plantation Golf Club, True Blue Plantation, River Club, Heritage Club, The Founders Club, and Litchfield Country Club. Also located in Pawley’s Island is the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and the Steve Dresser Golf Academy.
History loves will enjoy a stroll in the historic district and a stop at the Gullah O’oman Museum and Shop featuring Gullah collectibles, story quilts, sweet grass baskets, dolls, wood carvings, etc.
The Hammock Shops Village, set in a park like setting offers 20+ unique shops with a wide variety of wares from apparel to home accents, Christmas collectibles, stationary, gourmet candy, jewelry, and gifts. Be sure to stop at the Original Hammock Shop–home of the world-famous Pawley’s Island rope hammocks. Options for lunch or dinner include Roz’s Rice Mill Cafe, Island Dogs, or Nosh, offering Northern-Italian/Mediterranean fare.
