Where to eat

Casual Dining

Bahama Breeze
You’ll find yourself surrounded by a Caribbean atmosphere both inside and outside in the tropical bar.  In addition–the food is great! Try the Coconut Shrimp appetizer (their most popular).  It’s also available as a dinner entree. The seafood chowder is also amazing, as are the other seafood dishes. For desert try their famous Rebecca’s Key Lime Pie. There are two restaurant locations in the Orlando area.

Bananas
A great local’s favorite, Bananas is a fun place to go for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  It’s located downtown Orlando near the cluster of museums (see what to do),  and is a great place for lunch instead of the fast food places at the museums. The kid’s will love the menu–especially the surprise treat at the end of their meal.  Bananas makes amazing milkshakes (try the Funky Monkey) and big juicy hamburgers– the Maui Wowie with grilled pinapple, applewood smoked bacon is my favorite.  As an appetizer I highly recommend the Funkey Monkey Fried Goat Cheese. Yum!

Upscale dining

La Coquina Chef’s Table
(Located in the Hyatt Grand Cypress )
If you’ve never experienced a “Chef’s Table,” don’t miss this 7-course wine-pairing dinner. It’s a great way to celebrate that special occasion, and one of the most amazing meals I’ve ever experienced.  A highly-trained staff prepares culinary creations right before your eyes. The menu changes daily, but a few samples of what you might experience include: Tuna Tartar on Warm BliniArugula and Limestone Lettuce, Peruvian Sea Bass with Mango Scallion Relish, and Strawberry Florentine Tower for dessert (open Saturday for dinner–reservations required).  La Coquina Chef’s Table also offers Sunday brunch.

Nine 18
Overlooking the North-South Golf Course at the Villas of Grand Cypress Golf Resort, Nine 18 is a dinner-only venue that showcases an extensive 500-bottle wine collection.  Chef Alan Gould grows the herbs and flowers used in his food presentation. Some menu highlights include Key West Yellow Tail Snapper,  Mixed Grill,  Australian lamb, and Petite Filet Mignon (done to perfection) among others. Desserts are amazing –so save room for a Coconut Tart served with pineapple coconut ice dream, or Friend Plantains atop a coconut half , or if you’re a chocolate lover, the Vlarhona Chocolate Gooey Cake.
